In collaboration with:
Waitematā Local Board, Auckland Council, For the Love of Bees, OMG, Kelmarna Gardens, Ngāti Whātua Orakei
We were commissioned by Auckland Council and the Waitematā Local Board to do a feasibility study of sites in the Waitematā local board area that could be considered for a new urban farm. This involved multiple deliverables, partners and stakeholders, to find out what the are barriers to getting more low-carbon food in our urban communities, and to establishing food growing enterprises in sustainable council-community partnerships.
Place Creative ran a co-design workshop with our key stakeholders, designed and publicised a food access survey for residents of the local board area, and researched best practice and business models of urban farms in the Waitematā.
The research resulted in a recommendation of a next step spent exploring the legislative overlay of parks and green spaces, to create a pathway through this uncertainty for community members wishing to establish urban farms with council support.
