Emily Place Innovating Streets Monitoring + Evaluation

In collaboration with:

Auckland Council

Place Creative supported this council-led tactical urbanism project which trialled streetscape upgrades on Emily Place in Auckland’s city centre. We managed the monitoring and evaluation of the project, undertaking a public life survey, designing online feedback surveys, and advising on communications around the project.

Through co-design with residents, the precinct was found to be a hotspot for parking where pedestrian access suffered due to speeding, steep, wide roadways blocking sight-lines, and circling cars. The road layout was made one-way, and a parklet and footpath extension created more space in the neighbourhood for safe walking and lingering. Come summertime, the space will be activated with community events and gatherings, and will be monitored to inform the future upgrade of the street.
