In collaboration with:
Auckland Council, Heart of the City, Karangahape Road Business Association
The Auckland City Centre Vacant Storefronts programme is funded by Auckland Council and delivered in collaboration with Heart of the City, Karangahape Road Business Association, property owners and artists, as a response to the COVID19 pandemic and other forces that have affected many businesses and the leasing environment in the Auckland Central City area.
The project was curated and coordinated by Place Creative, working closely with Heart of the City, Karangahape Road Business Association, property owners and artists.
The Vacant Storefronts Programme uses temporary creative responses to activate vacant storefronts in Auckland’s City Centre; from simple vinyl patterns, to illustrations, sculptural installations, window painting and typography.
Each creative response is bespoke to the site, to ensure the artwork and design is suitable to the context and property owner requirements.
Most installations are in place for at least 3 months, with some remaining for up to 1 year.
