The placemaking team from Thames-Coromandel District Council embarked on a bold, community-lead transformation of their town’s car-centric main street with Create The Vibe, which used design-thinking to engage with local people through co-design to find out how they’d like to see their town centre working differently. 

Place Creative supported TCDC with co-design advice, workshop facilitation, design brief writing, and monitoring and evaluation throughout the project. 

A pedestrianised zone across a section of the town’s main thoroughfare was installed in March as part of the Innovating Streets for People tactical urbanism programme. TCDC has created a launchpad for events and colour in the Thames CBD- it’s the new ‘heart’ of Thames.
